ABOUT THE PLAYGROUND

Our Story

The Athlete’s Playground didn’t start with a building.
It started with a belief—that athletes deserve to be developed the right way.

In 2012, The Athlete’s Playground was nothing more than a truck and a trailer, a handful of tools, and an unwavering commitment to coaching with purpose. No shortcuts. No gimmicks. Just movement, education, and intent. We trained wherever we could—fields, parking lots, open spaces—teaching athletes how to move better before ever asking them to move faster or lift heavier.

That belief became the foundation for everything that followed.

In 2013, we opened our first facility—a 2,300 square foot space built solely for athlete development. Small, but deliberate. It became a place where athletes didn’t just train—they learned. They learned how to balance. How to run. How to sprint with mechanics that protect their bodies. How to jump and land safely. How confidence is built through proper movement.

As results followed, demand grew—and so did the vision.

In 2017, we expanded into our second facility at 8,000 square feet, allowing us to refine our systems and deepen our impact. Our focus sharpened on long-term athlete development. We refused to rush kids. We refused to train them like miniature adults. Instead, we taught movement first—then layered speed, strength, power, and explosiveness on top of a foundation built to last.

By 2021, The Athlete’s Playground moved into its current home—a 14,500 square foot performance facility designed specifically to develop athletes from the ground up. The space changed. The mission never did.

Today, we work with youth athletes as young as six, through middle school and high school, across a wide range of sports—including baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, and track & field—meeting them exactly where they are and guiding them forward through age-appropriate, progressive training.

Youth Athlete Development

Our training is intentional, transferable, and rooted in how athletes actually move and compete. We develop:

  • Acceleration and deceleration

  • First-step quickness and reaction

  • Multi-directional movement and change of direction

  • Proper running and sprinting mechanics

  • Jumping and landing mechanics

  • Balance, coordination, and body control

  • Strong, resilient feet and ankles

  • Relative strength training that evolves as athletes grow

  • Safe, intentional introduction to weight training when athletes are ready

Every Phase Matters.

Every Detail Matters.

Adult Functional
Training

That same movement-first philosophy extends beyond youth athletics.

We specialize in adult functional movement and strength training, helping adults move effectively, efficiently, and confidently in everyday life. Our goal isn’t to train adults like athletes—it’s to train them for real-world demands.

We help adults strengthen the areas of their bodies they rely on every day, whether that means:

  • Playing and training with their kids or grandkids

  • Skiing, hiking, biking, and running

  • Staying active, capable, and injury-free

  • Building strength that transfers outside the gym

Our training emphasizes joint health, mobility, stability, relative strength, and proper movement mechanics so adults can continue doing the things they love—without pain, hesitation, or limitation.

This isn’t about extreme workouts.

It’s about durable strength, sustainable movement, and lifelong performance.

How We Do It?

We test, track, and analyze performance so progress is measurable and training decisions are informed. Our methods are rooted in movement science, not trends, and are supported by collaboration with the University of New Mexico’s Exercise Science program.

This allows us to blend real-world coaching experience with academic understanding of how the body moves, adapts, and stays healthy.

Our coaches are not simply trainers—they are educated strength and sports performance professionals who know how to teach, progress, and protect the body at every age. Injury prevention isn’t an add-on here—it’s built into everything we do—from how an athlete warms up, to how an adult lifts, carries, moves, and recovers.

The Athlete’s Playground is the result of more than a decade of refinement, growth, and relentless commitment to movement-based training. What began with a truck and a trailer has become a laboratory for building confident, capable, and resilient humans—youth athletes and active adults alike.

This isn’t about chasing quick wins.

It’s about building foundations that last.

This is The Athlete’s Playground.

Where movement comes first.

Where development is intentional.

Where people are built for the long run.
